Gayatri Jat

India

A professional engineer, Gayatri has worked on conflict-resoltuion programs in Gujarat to heal the rift between Hindus and Muslims.  She in fact came with a Muslim participant to Global PeaceWorks to explore new possibilities for peace-making.

Gayatri came as a skeptical participant, expecting to experience a traditional (boring?) conference and pack her bags after a day or two.  She not only stayed on, she helped guide us through the colorful streets of Vrindaban and even stayed beyond the end of the program.  And thank heaven she stayed, how else could we hear those beautiful Hindu prayers?

Here is her letter to her new friends from Global PeaceWorks.

My dearest friends from Global PeaceWorks,

A very Happy New Year & a loving salute from Gayatri!! I am back in Bhuj, safe & sound with found memories of all of your good company.  Let heaven to bethanked that God gave me the opportunity to meet people like you all. Still I am in Heaven with all of you.

Gayatri starting the morning prayers with a Hindu prayer, and accompanied by representatives of Buddhist, Sikh, Catholic and Protestant Christian traditions

I must admit that it was marvellous to go through this experience. Because serving and helping other people is not less than the experience of heaven.  I could't sent all of you X-mas whishes because of my overloaded work schedule but my all good wishes & prayers always are with all of you.

I want to give Special Thanks To Sadeque & Eric. Without Sadeque it could not possibe for me to come to this exellent program.  And Eric without you, we all could't get this 'expensive' experience of life.  I am trying to give press note in every newspaper in a short time!

I learned many good things from all of you, I learned and felt that giving others love, respect, care, passion, experience & help is of utmost importance. I realised "Help others get what they want and we will in turn get what we want. If we want to be successful we should consider ourselves servants of other people."  What can we to do help them and make them better? I think this is the true path to greatness and success in life.

There's always time for a little dancing
- especially Punjabi dancing!

I request that you all pray for the Iranian people who are affected by the earthquake. And pray for peace everyday through your own religious tradition.  Because now we all are agents of peace! Also pray for those with whom we might not be on good terms with. And if it is possible then skip one meal each week to express solidarity with all those who go without food. Thanks to all of you for everything . Because i will never forget the warmth and love.  This entire experience is still lingering in my mind.

With my love & Good wishes,

Gayatri
