PeaceWorkers of 2003

Khorrum with Anthony Dayd sharing a laugh

Khorrum Omer
New Delhi, India

Khorrum has worked in interfaith for over 15 years now and is known throughout Delhi as one who likes to work and bring people together.  He has no titles, no "Sri Sri Sri" nor "Dr." nor "Yogi" or anything else adorning his name, but to many of us he is the real thing.  An everyday guy who does extraordinary things.  Here is his New Year's letter.

My dearest Friends,

This is 3 am of 1st January 2004 and I cant sleep even after a long, dark and one of the coldest 31st Decembers of Delhi which was also marred by a long 7 hrs powercut in our area and that made things even worst, when the power finally came back just before midnight I sat on my desk and and was wondering what to do now there were so many mails to be answered from all those New Year wishes from all of you and many other friends and then Eric and I had to have our regular chat which is almost a ritual everyday at Yahoo chat or msn (thanks to Yahoo and MSN).

Having a good time with people of Janta Colony

Doing all that, I was just browsing thru old messages at my Yahoo mail and somehow opened a message from Eric when he told me that he is arriving in Delhi earlier this year, I was quite excited as it was almost after 13 years I was going to meet him since our RYS porject in Poland. But I was kinda stuck in singapore during those days and somehow managed to finish my work there and rushed back to Delhi to be able to recieve Eric in Delhi.

And I thank God that I did that coz that changed many things in life for me, first and formost to be able to establish Global Peaceworks with Eric and Ravi, and then to be able to meet all you wonderful people. I keep reading your mails again and again and wonder if we can find more and more people of our kind and all of us join together then may be someday we will be able to achieve what we are aiming to.

Khorrum with Ela Gandhi

Until yesterday if asked by anyone why do we do these projects I used to reply, "that we are trying to bring people together from different faith and cultures though I am not sure if we will be able to attain world Peace through this". But now I can see that things are changing and my belief in us is getting much stronger, I see that our experience of living together have made a difference in all of us, it doesn't matter however small or big but i bet my life that it has.

Allow me to take this opportunity to thank each one of you in making me feel much more stronger in my belief, It is really a blessing to know all of you and I wish you all the best in life.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

love u all
Khorrum
