What We Do

Eric Wenzel, Global PeaceWorks team member, leading a session at the Delhi Peace Summit, a pre-meeting of the Parliament of World ReligionsGlobal PeaceWorks provides innovative volunteer programs in interfaith humanitarian service. Program Model

1.
Selection

All participants have a demonstrated potential to be a peacemaking leader. Participants share a lifelong interest in the project theme or region to which they are applying.  Participants are open to sharing about spirituality and diversity in wisdom traditions.

2.
Preprogram Preparation

Preprogram access to local information.

A fundraising kit helps participants pay for the costs of the program.

An on-line group mailing list to facilitate introductions.

Participants prepare to share their personal passions and professional plans with the other participants (guidelines provided).

Most participants come with a plan for how they will provide ongoing service to their chosen community (guidelines provided).

3.
Orientation

Helps participants learn about their surroundings and about each other. We often get to know one another faster and deeper than neighbors do after a year of living next to each other!

4.
Principles of Leadership Throughout the program, the Global PeaceWorks' Principles of Leadership are introduced in various contexts to facilitate learning and practice of service-leadership
5.
Inner Wisdom Each participant has an opportunity to share a story or Scripture from her tradition.
6.
Service Every project is built around humanitarian service to community in need. We partner with established service organizations to ensure that we deliver service efficiently and encourage evaluation of all of our service efforts.
7.
Beauty

Participants share artwork, poetry, music, dance and stories with one another (guidelines). Most programs have a participant visual-artist and musician.

In addition, each program offers unique opportunities to enjoy the beauty of the local culture and nature.

8.
Ongoing Service Opportunities for ongoing service are provided through introductions for local school partnerships and introductions to local humanitarian service groups. The local humanitarian service groups (NGOs) form the backbone of our development work - we work to support them.
9.
University Every program has a relationship with a local university. Students from the university support our work and professors assist with learning about the local cultures.
10.
Action Driven

The last two days of each program is devoted to creating plans for "what's next" after the project is over.

11.
Reflection

We complete each project with reflection time.

Our final event is a banquet with the local community and intercultural entertainment.

12.
Follow-up

Ongoing networking is built in via the web and regional meetings. Ongoing coaching and support via chat is also available.

Each participant receives a CD with detailed contact information, photos and stories from the project.
