is an interfaith service project for people interested in creating
peace through active service
and spiritual understanding.

We are seeking volunteer participants
to join the Global PeaceWorks team
from
The
project will involve volunteers
of many faiths serving
with a local NGO charity in the greater Delhi, India
area and include visits to religious sites and presentations
by religious leaders of
several faiths.
Candidates
interested in world religions and creating peace among
religions in the greater South Asia
region are encouraged to apply. If

Cooperating organizations for this project
will include Chetanalaya (a
social action organization of the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese),
the Muslim Youth League, the Indian
Bahá'í Community, Gobind
Sadan and The
Religious Youth Service (RYS).
The
project includes
- shared living (participants will share a room
with someone of a different cultural / religious tradition)
- group activities (learning cooperative processes
among different cultures)
- cultural programs (song, poetry, art and
dance)
- religious practices (experiential
learning of each other's religious traditions through visits
to sacred sites and prayer and meditation exercises)
- charitable service work (this will involve
physically work for a community in need)
Note:
This event is NOT a conference but an active learning experience
which includes charitable service
work and cooperative
experiential educational programs.

The
project will include visits to sacred sites in the Delhi
area including the Baha'i House of Worship (the
famous "Lotus Temple"); Ramakrishna
Mission,
which upholds the heritage of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami
Vivekananda - the
renowned Swami who
addressed the Parliament of World Religions in Chicago
in 1893;
Sis Ganj Gurudwara - a place of pilgrimage
for Sikhs which commemorates
the martyrdom
of the ninth Sikh guru, Sri Guru Teg Bahadur; The shrine
of sufi saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya which
bears tribute to nearly 800 years of Islamic history
[and possible visits to either the Sunahari
Masjid
(Golden Mosque) or the Jama Masjid (one of the largest
mosques in Asia)];
an historic
Jain temple; and Gobind
Sadan, a unique community
which honors all religions. An optional tour of
temples in Vrindaban,
a holy city for honoring Lord Krishna will take
place at the end of the project.

Global
PeaceWorks believes that the key to peace lies in the
spiritual traditions and thus this project will
emphasize
the role of spirituality in solving
global problems. The fee for participants
from economically developed nations is
$575 (for registration before August
31, after August 31, the fee is $675) for this exciting
9 day program.
Upon
acceptance, qualified applicants (university students,
NGO staff or
active volunteers) from the sub-continent will have the
special rate of 2000 rps. Partial scholarships
may be available for qualified applicants from the subcontinent. Other
applicants will be informed of the required fee.
